Pumpkins and Milestones
2020 marked a milestone for me – I am now in my mid-30s. Somewhere between that and the pandemic forced a lot of realizations; The friends list culled, and family relationships strained, which puts it mildly in some respects.
In that way, this silly little trip carried so much more emotional significance in 2020 than I was prepared for. It signaled, somewhat, that the life I’d been searching for had been found here in the Bay Area, and in ways not at all what I had imagined when I was younger.
This trip began seven years ago after a breakup, as something I did at the peak of being alone. Now it is filled with so many friends, old and new, with tradition, with memories of us all laughing, picking pumpkins, of eating crappy food set against amazing views, and marking the passing of another year, watching the seasons change.
Thank you to everyone who again made this year so special, and for those who couldn’t make it: I look forward to the next one with you.
